Which option should I pick?
Petty cash out
Use this when cash leaves the till for a small business expense, for example milk, cleaning supplies, parking or emergency stock.
It reduces expected cash in the drawer.
Cash in
Use this when extra cash is added to the drawer that is not a sale, for example topping up the float.
It increases expected cash in the drawer.
Cash out
Use this when cash is removed from the drawer but it is not a petty cash expense, for example moving cash to the safe.
It reduces expected cash in the drawer.
Correction
Use this only to fix a mistake in the cash count or a previous cash movement. Put a clear reason so the manager can audit it later.
Positive corrections increase expected cash. Negative corrections reduce expected cash.
